Any reason why the scrolling nes version wasn't chosen?Time constraints?

YES

I don't like NES.

The original ZX version is more lovely (these NES gfx suck) and furthermore I ported the game to 3 platforms at once (C64,CPlus4,VIC20).

Hahah, I actually like the NES graphics, but holy cow, I LOVE the fact that you're developing this game for my 3 favorite vintage platforms! Amazing that you have the courage to do that!

Other C64 game developers, take note :)

I like the nes assets too,and the added scrolling, background animation really adds to the game visually.Everybody has different taste though.

Great hires sprites! For the graphics & gameplay style shown here, flickscreen appears to fit pretty much perfectly. The NES levels that scroll, appear more sparse.

It might look sparse but anymore entities and the game would be even more difficult, perhaps making the game not fun as it's already quite difficult. Some of the sparse areas have hazards when moving along(running, jumping) and it's difficult to navigate through those scenes, adding more entities to avoid would be overly frustrating to the point of making the game insanely difficult. This is one of those game were more doesn't equal better. It seems to be balanced quite well especially for a homebrew game, give it a real play if you have time and are interested.

I prefer the NES version too. Graphics look nicer and I prefer scrolling over single screen.

It's all matter of taste really. Still I'm happy to see another game in development for the 64 :)

I'm not a NES fan myself but I would have done the NES version as that is more of a challenge as recreating a Spectrum game.
I would change the white dithered outline of the bricks though with med or dark grey, that will look better. I always say improve upon the original where possible.

Looking great!

In many cases I prefer flick-screen to scrolling games, ofcourse it depends on the game but it often makes the game easier to navigate, and map for those of us that likes that.
slightly bored and severly confused...
