This game runs perfectly on both PAL and NTSC models of the Commodore 64.

Gameplay

The character that the player will have to control is Scout, a stray dog, who has to go through different mazes munching on the bones scattered in them and avoiding being captured by the dog catchers who are chasing him. A level will end when all bones have been eaten.

The game has 32 levels to complete. However, it must be said that the mazes are procedurally generated, therefore, with each new game, the player will find himself facing ever-changing levels. As the player progresses through the levels, the speed of the chasers will increase more and more until he reaches the last level.

As a defense weapon, Scout has "barks" at his disposal, with which he can scare the dog catchers who will run away from our hero for a few seconds. As long as the enemies are scared, they are completely harmless. However, the barks cannot be used repeatedly, since about 3 seconds will have to pass before being able to bark again (at the top left of the screen there is a small bar that indicates the "charge" status of the bark).

For every certain number of bones devoured, a "magic" ball will come into play which, depending on the color, will perform different actions once collected. The red ball will activate the β€œx3” (the bones eaten later will be worth 30 points instead of 10). The blue ball will make all the enemies run away just like when using the bark. The purple ball will activate a letter inside the writing EXTRA placed at the top center of the screen; once the writing is complete, the player will earn a life. The cyan ball will make the dog catchers disappear for a few seconds, after which they will re-enter the entrance gate of the maze as if nothing had happened. Finally, there is a ball that changes color and that will give a different score depending on it (brown = 1000, green = 2000, yellow = 3000).

Nice game, but it's really hard to get a bonus life. 28320 points was my best performance so far.

The only way to earn an extra life is to complete the EXTRA writing. To do this, you have to collect all the purple balls that appear every two levels. This means that every 10 levels you gain a life.

I know that, but it's still not easy to even get to level 10 in normal mode. Anyway, nice job LC!

First of all, thank you for enjoying the game.

Seeing your video, I feel like saying that all the deaths were more or less avoidable, so you could have certainly done better.

One piece of advice I can give you is to use the barks much more, not only to avoid being captured, but also to keep the pursuers away as much as possible. Especially when there are four dog catchers, it is important to keep them at a distance, especially the fastest ones (the tallest ones). When I'm playing, instead of just running away, I often go towards the enemies and bark at them in order to keep them away.

Another tip is to lure the enemies to one side and then go to the opposite side. If you implement this strategy well, it is really beneficial.

Another thing that perhaps no one has noticed is that the bark bounces off the walls. It can be useful if you are being closely pursued by an enemy, as instead of turning towards him, you can reach a wall, bark, and let the bark come back and hit the enemy from behind.

As a last tip, check out this video where my brother got to level 16 on Expert difficulty:

Thanks for the hints, but I don't think it's really my thing. Some games suit me better, others less. That's how it is sometimes.

The game is perfect as it is. Looking forward to your upcoming games.

OK. In case you or someone else who reads is interested, in this other video my brother Stefano completes the game on Normal difficulty:

solid game. graphics + animations are great. i feel the game is missing some sort of unique mechanic to make it more interesting, but i can't really think of it. anyways! great work!

I'm glad you appreciate it.

During the development, my brother and I thought about a lot of solutions to make the game richer and more interesting, but for one reason or another we had to give up and the final result is what you see. There certainly won't be a version 1.2 where the gameplay is expanded in any way.

Awesome!

Thank you for this new video!

Nice job! But it could have been better with funny tunes like in the Lazy Jones. This turns out to be boring after a while.

Well, if someone wants to "donate" some tunes, I might consider putting them in the game.

Ah, I get it.

Since no one has donated any tunes, I've put in the effort and made a couple of them. Download version 1.1. I hope you like it.

nice gfx, but gameplay was a bit of a letdown for me..  6.5/10

I figured not everyone would appreciate it. Sorry.

nothing to be sorry for here, one can not re-invent the wheel every time. it's pac-manish, and there is only so much one can do with it ;)

Nice game!

Thank you for apprecciating and for the video!

Really nice game! Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 01:34:51. Automatic subtitles should be available soon (switch on, if necessary). Subscription to our YouTube or Twitch channel is welcome. :-)

Thanks a lot!

Really nice game. What tools did you use to make it?

Thank you. I used the all in one tool C64Studio

Lovely game, here is my tribute...

Thank you so much! Your videos are always very enjoyable!

A me non sembra proprio. Questione di punti di vista e di sensazioni. Grazie comunque! πŸ˜‰

Cute maze game featuring a cute dog with a loud bark. Superb graphics with arcade style sound effects. Excellent game play.

Thank you so much for apprecciating !!!
