HOOY-PROGRAM presents:

an arcade-platform game "Magical Dimensions" for ZX Spectrum 128 computers' series.

YERZMYEY:
- idea,
- script,
- graphic,
- levels,
- fonts,
- chiptune music
- digital music
- AGD parts of code

HELLBOJ:
- Assembler coding
- hacking
- linking

MisterIOUS BEEP:
- 1-bit / BEEPER music

- Jonathan Cauldwell was traditionally a great moral and intellectual support. :)

The game has 4 pretty vast levels (11 chambers each, which gives in total 44 screens to overcome).

It has been originally based on AGD.

Very very good. Some screens require a lot of perfect timing - ideal for all those Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy freaks. Excellent music too.

Ooohh nice ending music and screeen.

  • Interesting game.

Bit awkward for me as I'm used to 6,7,8,9 and 0 to play games.

    Nice music and colourful graphics.
  • nice relaxing game, not too hard and 99 lives on start should be enough for everyone ((c) microsoft ;])...

but anyway, if you are in a mood that even 99 lives is for your playing too few, here is a poke ;] POKE 31188,0
  • Hi guys,
thx a lot, we spent, like, almost a year over it, however - I do realize it IS still too hard in some places.
After the "Crapbert" ZX platform game I promised myself I will make an easy game this time.
Well, seems like I failed again.
If it's too hard, than it's only me who should be accused of it.

PS: Actually I already hate my own game and I cannot even walk it through, as I think it's too hard in some particular moments. :) Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg.

Talk like a pirate day was more than a week ago--silly.

Anyway, nice looking game! Looks splendid. Maybe I will have a go at it this weekend.
My only Speccy game (so far): a simple snake clone
  • excellent: great graphics, music, baddies behaviour and level design.

Just the right difficulty and a gentle slope (most ZX games start too hard). Keep them coming!
  • Excellent game, very googd graphics and the most important a good idea. Congratulations.
  • I try it in Spectaculator and kempston joystick not working :-(.

I've written a few games and every one has made me feel a bit like this at times, it's part of the learning process I think!

  • Sorry for late answer Yerz, but I must say it - this is definitely a cool stuff :)>-
  • :) :) :) Many thanks dudes!!!!!! :)

PS: ub880d was kind enough to correct the Kempston for emulators.

It's kinda strange though. We were testing it on ZX Spectrum Vega and Kempston worked just fine.
I already sent this info to Hellboj.

Well, what could I say to You, my friends.
I'm not a coder - and never will be.

Jonathan made a unique possibility for people like me to program games in the one special language: AGD. And I'm grateful for this sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

Now. Regarding Your question. I have no idea of course. I wouldn't know. I asked, however, our coder - Hellboj.

I'm only a humble musician who sometimes puts here and there some pixel.
When I "code" (bothering Jonathan every single line, and he's actually a SAINT to give me answers :) ) it looks like that:
    AGD_language_Objects1.png
    AGD_language_Objects2.png
Hellboj said that what AGD gives us is the "script language" or "high level language".

However, when it comes to program a menu for the game, music in interruptions IM2, to force to display the 'colourful border' being originally and SCR, to remember lives and score despite of re-loading and changing the entire game actually, the second part's proper initialisation, to hack AGD to make the Kempston's Up to be the FIRE, removing the ULA+ procedures and many many more -
it was the Hellboj and it was the Assembler and it was the situation I thought there's some MAGIC around me and I cannot overcome it. ;)

So Hellboj's coding of the game looked like THIS:
    ASM_Language_mdasm1.png
    ASM_Language_mdasm2.png

So that You know, I can invent some crap ideas sometimes, or glue 3 notes into a song, but it's guys like Jonathan or Hellboj - or any other coders for that matter - the real heroes of the retro-scene. :)

    Without them we're useless. ;)

OK dudez, I go back to listen to the Adamski house techno stuff and You have a nice evening! :)

    Byezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  • finished. cool game. many lives, good difficultiness
    thanks
  • Great music, happy mood, fun arcade gameplay and cute graphics! Love the main character. :)
  • Thx guys.

OK, now it's also in a version for ZX Spectrum 48K.
    http://hooyprogram.republika.pl/MysteriousDimensions.zip

Hellboj had to make some more of multiloading, we also had to remove one tune (so there's only 3 of them now, what gives only one in-game song sadly, but it was all we were able to do for our beloved 48K).

Anyway the game should work; tested on ZX Spectrum Vega. :)
