Testers wanted for my new game - Orbital Rescue

Post by RunStop64 »

Hi All,

I'm at an initial testing stage for a game I'm developing. Its a bit like what you would get if Choplifter, Fort Apocalypses and Jupiter lander had a baby.

Anyone interested in contributing with sound and graphics please let me know.

But it has to be Basic right? It looks interesting, what kind of graphics and sounds are you looking for and in which format?

Definitely a Lunar Lander / Choplifter vibe to it.

I can help test if needed.

Stupidly I didn't say in the youtube video a link was available for download in the description, also below but please remember its not finished. If you download it and play it any feedback is welcome especially what level you can get to. There is a cheat - pressing L during the game progresses to the next level. I can get to level 9 without cheating and 19 with cheating.

I don't like my space ship especially when its tilted left or right. It gets very chunky. Sprites in Basic as Data would be perfect.

Any sound effects in Basic that you think would be suitable also welcome.

Thanks

I actually thought the sprites were fine. What you've already got looks as good as any of the similar games I've seen from the era.

Game looks great. How are you compiling basic to make it go so fast?

Hi,

As a kid I fooled around with programming games in Basic and Assembler. Since getting back into the C64 I found Boss Basic Complier and was amazed how fast it was. I developed this game to see what I can do with Compiled Basic and I was again amazed I had to slow the gameplay down.

Liking this! Very nice so far 8)

Nothing wrong with just hi-res monochrome - has a cool early 80's vibe.. Though in this case, a bit of texture and monochromatic shading on the rocks would maintain that feel but look a lot better to my eye.

Downloaded this a couple of nights ago REALLY enjoyed it, the Speed of the Game is lovely, shocked it's in Basic/compiled whatever and NOT Machine Code/Assembler - whatever the Geeks call it !!! Lovely Game, Lots of fun, TBH I don't think the Graphics are bad - they have a nice RETRO Vibe - However, maybe an option for "MODERN" or "RETRO" Graphics could be included if you have the In Game Memory ? :D

Hi Again,

I'm more or less finished developing the game. I'd appreciate any feedback or bugs encountered. Also let me know if you think its too hard or easy. I've added a cheat - Press L to advance levels. I've got to level 11 without the cheat.

Thanks to JonEgg for sprites for 2 of the 3 ships available
