The Wild Wood!

Post by Hend »

I am pleased to announce that The Wild Wood is now well underway!

Image

The game is highly ambitious, and probably the first in 25 years to have 3 coders working on it!

The WildWood team:

Code: Achim, Wanax, Zirias
Sounds and Music: NM156
GFX and Design: Hend

Help navigate young Hare on his adventure into the the heart of the Wild Woods! Across moonlit fields and through Ancient Ruins, underground into Cavernous Warrens, explore magnificent Cathedrals, creepy Graveyards and venture deep into the Ominous Woods themselves!

On his journey he will face huge multi-directional platform levels, fast paced horizontally scrolling sections, big bosses and much more.

We aim to make it the best modern game ever produced for the C64. Containing graphics of a level not seen before on your humble commie and a fully immersive soundtrack, all smoothly put together by our top team of coders! A joy to watch, listen to and play.

It will be squeezed into every byte of a 500k cart and be accompanied by beautiful artwork and superior quality presentation. Production time is currently predicted at 12 months, but things are coming together rapidly!

Below I include a few preview WIP images to get your juices flowing,

A Moonlit Field Run! Like Shadow of the Beast, WildWood has Action and Platform levels.

I forgot to add last night, the "poster" / box art looks sensational too, like a water colour plus ink extravaganza.

Excellent, true C64 AAA quality work in the making!

Can you share about the platform sections' scrolling tech - how big is your scrolling window, and are any HW tricks in use?

Of course, to be a bit of a devil's advocate - now aiming to be the best modern game for the C64 means you have to beat Sam's Journey also in gameplay, which is no small task :D

We already had the bunch of solely graphics-focused games in the '90s (not saying The Wild Wood will be the same!)

But definitely, no matter what the outcome, it's great that people try and push the boundaries.

That's our aim :)

Wild Wood is a totally different game to Sam's Journey in many ways,
but gameplay is foremost in our mind.
We plan for a thoroughly immersive and compelling experience from beginning to the end.
