Description

Long and cruel was the Civil War, the brutality of it’s pains which tore into the civilities of the Lands of Greater Rivaria. Now at last, our differences settled, we stand united again yet teetering upon the precipice of our existence. Insidiously, the so-called “Resistance” swelled it’s ranks with the most seditious and foul of enemies. Their leader, still without name, seeks the overthrow of the Highest Sovereign of our Land, the Honourable Lady Carmilla Bane.

Legendary is the Tablet of Uthar. Behold, it was forged by the Gods of Creation, those who brought order and prosperity to our ancestors in the Days of Old. By the hands of their holy power, the Tablet of Uthar is utmost blessed. It holds the power to unite all in our lands to stand strong and defeat our enemies who seek to destroy our way of life… but… it is… fragmented.

Up to ten worthy adventurers are called upon to the Royal Castle to gather the Shards of the Tablet. So great is this current threat that all are called upon regardless of race, origin or creed; so long as they swear loyalty to our Highest Sovereign, Lady Carmilla Bane. By this Quest to unite the Holy Tablet, the people will be inspired to join together within their hearts as a Nation.

Therefore, all are called upon to surpass our imminent peril. Will you answer the call? Will you help lift us from this most desperate hour?

Viscount Beaumont
Emissary and most trusted advisor to Lady Carmilla Bane, the Highest Sovereign of our Land.

I can’t understand that nobody cared to give a review to this exceptional game. RoQ V is one of the most impressive achievements in both VIC-20 and C64 programming I’ve ever played. It’s a proper RPG, many choices to build your own party (12 races and 12 classes to choose from, countless spells, items,…), with a very extensive and well built open world to explore and roam, interesting dungeon design, cities to visit and an easy to understand but very rewarding tactical turn based fighting system. The countles digitized portrait images look just fantastic, the overall appearence is very pleasant.
So overall RoQ V is a brillant RPG in the tradition of the classics but with enough unique ideas to keep the player entertained for many, many hours. I purchased a C64 Maxi to be able to play it in a worthy way – yes, I really like this game that much. Highly recommended!

Watched review on 8bit show and tell – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUsYNwISNNs&ab_channel=8-BitShowAndTell

Sorry I gave a rating without actually playing it, but I wanted to leave a link to the review so I took the liberty for speaking for Robin, since he gave such high praise to the game.

And since it looks great, I figured I’d pick it up in anticipation of my retro VIC20 coming in October.

Is there any way to get a box version? I would love to own it and support the developer further.

I got to this game after downloading Realms of Quest IV and Realms of Ques Trilogy, time ago.
It’s incredible the production values behind these titles, the content and what they pack for the VIC-20.
Great game, for one of the most iconic computers out there.
I recommend you buy this game plus download all of the previous stuff.

I have never played any of the other Realm of Quest games, but I greatly enjoyed this game. You slowly learn about all the goals you can achieve in each town and dungeon. Which allows you to know what you have missed and where you need to still explore (great for a game that you wont easily find a walkthrough or let’s plays of!).

A lot of viable party make ups and race/class selections keeps things interesting.

I was concerned about the fact that some races will age and permanently die eventually. However I completed the game and it never came up for me. There are some options you have in the late game to negate this to some degree.

My only complaint is that later in the game, especially in the final dungeon there are tons of enemies that have save or die effects they will use on your party. Making combat in the end game a pain. But the game before that point was so enjoyable to me that I still think it deserves 5 stars.
