OTHER
FORMATS
Uridium was originally released on the C64
and later converted to other formats. On this page I have written
what I personally think about them. On this page you will also find
pictures from the different versions(note: there are only pictures
from the versions that are visually different from the C64 version).
I am also proud to present pictures from the Amiga version of Uridium
2. Uridium 2 is the sequel to Uridium and was released in 1993.
AMIGA
The above pictures is from an unofficial Amiga
version of Uridium. Basically, it looks like some guys attempted to
do an Amiga version of the game which still looks very similar to
the C64 version. On the right screen, you see a radical redesign of
the teleporter(or mothership). The demo seems very unfinished although
the main "core" of the game is there. Also you you can only play one
level of the game and you can't actually land so there's no subgame.
There's no title music either, just a few simple spot fx in the game
itself.
These two pictures are from level 1. Note on
the right screenshot, that the landing area looks quite different
from the original. Too bad they didn't finished working on this version
cause it could have turned out quite good. I have not played this
game so most of the above info is from Kenz,
who also sent the screenshots to me.
AMSTRAD
This version looks and play just like the
Spectrum version, but it have smoother scrolling. Although I expected
a bit better graphics, I like this version.
ATARI ST
I like the Atari ST version, cause it is
fast and looks and plays like the C64 version. It has good sound,
but the control of the manta fighter is a bit weak. But all in all,
it is a good conversion.
GAMEBOY COLOR
Now I have been able to get hold of screenshots
of the Gameboy Color version of Uridium. Thanx goes to Kenz
for sending them to me. I have also been told by Kenz that this version
will not be released due to problems licensing the game. Thats a real
shame because I think the game looks great. The graphics seems to
be based more on Uridium 2(Amiga) than on the original C64 version.
I actually hope that the programmers can solve the licensing problem,
cause this is a Gameboy Color game I would like play.
PC
The PC version of Uridium is actually very
good. It is fast and it is almost as good as the C64 version. Those
who have played Uridium before might notice that the destruction sequence
is removed(I don't know why, maybe technical problems...). The only
really bad thing is the sound, internal speakers aren't my idea of
a good sound. Thanx to Kevin
Martin for sending this version to me.
SPECTRUM
The loading picture from the Spectrum version
to the left and the titlescreen to the right.
Two more screens from the Spectrum version. The
screen to the right is from Uridium+(note that the Manta fighter is
chased by a Homing mine). The Spectrum version may be slow and not
very colorful, but it plays very well.
URIDIUM 2(AMIGA)
To the left you see the title screen of Uridium
2. As you see on the right screen, the graphic looks great and is
very detailed. Uridium 2 may look very impressive, but the graphics
sometimes makes it hard to see the main sprite. The sound effects
are very good and the titletrack is nice.
After landing on the Master runway in Uridium
2, you are transported to a bonus section(left screen) and you goal
there is to destroy the core in the middle, this is quite hard and
I think this section is both unnecessary and boring. On the right
screen you see that when you have finished the bonus section, the
whole thing starts to self-destruct and you fly away into hyperspace,
heading for the next level. Although Uridium 2 have nice graphics
and sound, I must say that it seems a bit uninspired, but in the end
Uridium 2 turns out to be a quite nice game. Here is the advert
for Uridium 2, thanx goes to Dominic
Holmes for sending it to me.
