Plumpy - fixed version

Plumpy is a cute and charming AGA licenceware platformer from '96.

The game, as shipped, had three broken levels that were impassable. They've all been hacked by myself in one way or another so it should now be completable from start to finish (a previous version of the hack was longplayed by [ Show youtube player ], though I had only fixed the first of three broken levels at that time).

Fixed version is in the zone. The level codes are:

Level 05: VKSQOWG3RP
Level 10: KQW3PAIHO4
Level 15: SWRA2OOG3E
Level 20: Q3AH4GCSOI
Level 25: OP24EE7IKX
Level 30: WAOGEO8OU1

It probably should be tidied up for final release (intro text on the ADF etc), I'll look into that sometime.

Hi earok, out of curiosity, i tested the game.
I noticed, that when you play and get the highscore, after all plumpy's lives are gone,
there is a black screen, instead of, what i guess the highscore entry screen.

You can type your name in, and with enter the game continues with the main intro screen.

Oh btw, i have a suggestion:
If you have levelcodes, cheats, hints, etc etc, could you provide them as text or graphic in the zip file.
Of course not as readme.txt, but with the name of the game, so that the info is there, in case you do not have the internet connection.
I usualy either write such things a comment with winzip, but lately, i noticed that 7zip does not support this, yet.

Nice, thank you earok

...I have this game in my collection but wasn't aware there were 3 broken levels with the original file. Need to replace the .ADF with your fixed version

Dan,

Highscore screen works fine on my A1200, are you using real hardware or emulator?

...was bored so slapped together a text screen:

"Plumpy (1996)(LT Design - F1 Licenceware)(AGA)(LW)[f levels earok].zip" is now in The Zone!

Bah, I decided to clean up the disk also...

@earok; this is how your modified disk looked when run through "ADF-Workshop":

...new clean disk is now in The Zone!

Emulator.
Here it shows only black screen. after pressing enter, it goes to the start screen.

Ok, after a bit of testing, activating the Cycle-exact (Full) option displays the Highscore entry screen.
(actually cycle-exact (DMA/Memory accesses) is enough to display it.

Anyway, now i managed to get to the second level, i noticed, that, trying to play it again, it starts from that level, is it normal ?

Yeah I noticed that as well.

...but IMHO this is a good thing so you can restart from the level that you died on

Plus it doesn't write to disk, must be storing settings in RAM or something, as when you reboot all is back to the 1st level and the disk hasn't been modified.

Thanks for that mate! I've taken the previous ADF out. Sometime I'll post this version to earok.net

Did I miss something? Where can I download the fixed Version (best would be a version, that works from harddisk on a real amiga 1200 - but if that is not possible, I also take the adf file).

@Kloks I think there are HDD installation instructions on the disk.. something like copy all files to a folder, and assign Plumpy:

earok's .ADF is in The Zone! i.e. "Plumpy (1996)(LT Design - F1 Licenceware)(AGA)(LW)[f levels earok].zip"

I have two "one byte" patches that might be interesting for use with hex editor; the first one sets number of lives limit, the second one adds joystick1 fire button1 "jump" (joystick up for "jump" still works in parallel).

If you want to patch the DF0:Plumpy binary directly on an Amiga, use these offsets:

Lives
Offset: $080B Value: $02 *
*) Where value can be changed to the number of lives you want, anything over 9 lives overflows the screen a bit.

Joystick firebutton jump
Offset: $2F63 Value: $02 *
*) The original value is $04, change it to $02.

If you want to patch the ADF file "Plumpy (1996)(LT Design - F1 Licenceware)(AGA)(LW)[f levels earok].adf" directly, then use these offsets:

Lives
Offset: $4C83 Value: $02 *
*) Where value can be changed to the number of lives you want, anything over 9 lives overflows the screen a bit.

Joystick firebutton jump
Offset: $75BB Value: $02 *
*) The original value is $04, change it to $02.

BTW:

If you want to run Plumpy from Amiga hard drive, there is info in the DF0:Plumpy.Doc file what files to copy and how to setup the assign.

NOTE:

The ADF file I downloaded from the zone has SHA256 checksum: 7af2c79b4465fa0138de8314c89fb362d73040643c520efa68cd12536b54344b

If DamienD or someone else decides to change contents of the image (again), then the ADF offsets will fail.

To exit Plumpy ADF version to shell press "Esc" key in menus, while playing in-game right mouse button exits to shell. You can also press the 'q' key while playing to quit to main menu.
