I would just like to thank everybody for the wonderful comments. This is what makes it all worth it. In the end it really all came together better than we thought it will, the new level design, the new graphics, all new gameplay features and in the end the stunning tunes.

Forgot to say that the music is most likely the best ever in any c64 game. Feels a bit like Tim Follin's Ghoul's and ghosts...

Epic remake. Having completed the original in arcade I didn't remember it being so tough. Either me or memory is too old ;-)

I just had to change my vote from 9\10 to 10/10. I liked the original Elite GnG (own it on tape), but I LOVE this game even more. Nice graphics. Great music, excellent remake. Well done to everybody involved.

So yea, now the soundtrack, its so good, it should get a separate release sometime. The last leveltune is really really really awesome, incredible remix of the original arcade tune.

also every other tune is great.

yep this release got it all

Normally I would rather remakes be of games which were terrible on the C64 (Double-Dragon, but now I understand why you chose to remake this one. It is so much better than the original release, and a lot better than Commando Arcade which is saying a lot. This is everything what G'n'G should be.

A few continues would have been great though as like the coin-op it's naturally never been an easy game, but then it just gives me extra reason to play even more :)

My first 10/10 (I think) on such a perfect release. Now go buy yourselves a pint to show our appreciation. Well done guys :)

Cooksey's tune (remade with a new replay routine) can only be heard in the attract mode. We left it in as a tribute really. It is a great tune, but we wanted really each level to have its own theme since the game is pretty long now and you play it for a while, so you don't get bored with the music. I think the tunes fit the levels perfectly.

It's cool! Big thanks.
Is there possible to hear the original Cooksey zak in-game? I think that wat it, why I played this game all the round again. Laxity's zaks are very cool, but.. I miss the Cooksey's one during the gameplay. .. or maybe it can be set but I passed it over? ...

Just for clarity... forgot this in the nfo file:

IFFL_REU is the IFFL version (that means one big file) - it works on most commodore drives and some others (1541, 1581, etc.) it will fully load to REU if you have one.

FL_Universal is the FILES version. This version should work on any drive since it has Kernal fallback. You can copy it to IDE64/SD2IEC/uIEC/etc. drives.

_EF.crt is the EasyFlash cartridge version. You can flash it on the Easyflash/Easyflash3 cartridge or just insert it as cartridge in Winvice.

<3 Nostalgia!!! Just played through the CRT version (with trainers ofcourse, the game was impossible back in the days, and still is). Looks great, sounds great. Im so impressed!!

PS: Since it is almost 30 years since i played this, I wanted to try the original version to compare. But when I choose "play original version instead", the trainer menu changes "yes" back to "no" when I start the game... Don't know if it is intentional or not, but fuck it, I can download the old version somewhere else. Anyway, Tomcat with crew: This is very impressive!

Extremely impressive work, particularly how levels have been expanded in the style of the original conversion. The difficulty is also set by Satan himself, considering how there are now arcade enemy attack patterns, but you still can fire only one weapon at a time :)

truly amazing, what an awesome job you guys did on really everything. I played it with the original side-by-side to compare and the funny thing is that I ran into quite a few gamebugs quickly on one side that of course did not exist on the n0s side :)
It's great to really notice also the more delicate bugfixes and rewrites (jumpfix, multiplexer, collision detection) that really improve gameplay.

graphics + music, also really incredible! STE+Mase did a fantastic job. gotta check the music a bit better tho, too many streams on tonight :P

and a spritemultiplexer in the docs? wth?! ;)

This time we went all-out and improved the game as much as we could. Most of the code is either rewritten, bug fixed or improved in one way. Graphically and sound-wise the game is completely new, everything was redone and improved. Overall the game is around 4 times the size of the C64 original and is pretty close to the size of the Arcade.

List of major improvements:

- Two completely new levels added.Level 6 has an additional final room.
- Existing 4 levels are expanded to be twice the size of the original.
- All levels have completely new graphics and level designs applied.
- All levels have unique new tunes added which were newly composed.
- New Sound Effects added or changed.
- New sprite multiplexer coded, which will minimize glitches.
- Intro sequence added where Satan abducts the Princess.
- Game Map added, which shows your progress when you are killed or you reach incoming level.
- Game Complete animation added.
- Game Over sequence added.
- Two new Bosses added for levels 5 and 6. They are bigger than any existing enemies in the original game.
- Added a new Jumping Skeleton enemy in levels 5 and 6.
- Moving Clouds recoded so they can be used on level 5.
- Arthur now can turn around when he jumps and he can shoot backwards.
- Added an improved Title/Loading screen with new tune.
- Weapons are now improved and all of them now actually make sense.
- Enemies have improved AI - not perfect but much better than original.
- Levels 1-4 are done in 2 parts now, but transition between them is fully seamless.
- Flying Knights at level 2 can only be shot from behind as in Arcade.
- Zombies first dig out some dirt so you can spot them before they kill you.
- Collision detection is drastically improved - you won't get killed when a bullet flies over your head anymore.
- Dragon Boss covers more of the screen area now and you need to shoot his head three times, and he won't shoot so many bullets anymore.
- House Ogres are easier to kill now.
- 'Sparkles' are now visible when you hit an enemy.
- Weapons that are dropped depend on the level you are playing, so you cannot get the shield in the beginning.
- Pause Game and Quit Game added, which can be activated by Run/Stop key.
- Arthur can jump over obstacles now even if he touches them. In the original he only jumped up.
- Time limit is now different for each level.
- 7 Trainers added for your pleasure.
